Canadian retailers often get upset that Canadian customers can order directly from websites. Often the US retail prices are lower than they are in Canada, and the research stops there once the retailer sees this. Please see the message below from a Canadian consumer who tried to order directly from Balanzza in the US…and see the attached screenshot!
That’s right, the shipping & duties they’re charging on a $50 purchase is more than twice the amount of the items purchased!!!!!!! She definitely wouldn’t be paying less by ordering from the US!
Also, some US websites don’t pre-collect duty (or warn customers of these fees), and customers get a surprise once the package gets to the post office. I’ve made several purchases in the past from US websites where I assumed customs charges would be minimal, and then had to pay almost the same value for the goods upon delivery. Not a pleasant experience!
